Abstract

The strengthening of prospective makeup artists through experiential learning grounded in local cultural heritage in the learning of Semarangan bridal makeup was described. The activity was conducted with 50 students from the Beauty Education Program in the 6th semester enrolled in the Javanese Bridal Makeup subject. The program was conducted in three meetings of concrete experience, reflective observation, abstract conceptualization, active experimentation, and final reflection. Data were collected through a pre-test and post-test, an observation sheet, a makeup practice rubric, a cultural awareness questionnaire, a student response questionnaire, a written reflection, a short interview, and a portfolio. Quantitative data were analyzed descriptively using means and percentages, while qualitative data were analyzed thematically. The results showed that students' knowledge increased from average pre-test to average post-test in practical skills, cultural awareness, response to learning, relevance to the prospective makeup artist profession, and portfolio. While common beauty education approaches mainly emphasize technical mastery, this study positioned Semarangan bridal makeup as a local heritage learning resource through experiential learning. Local cultural heritage-based experiential learning could be an initial empowerment strategy to strengthen the knowledge, practical skills, cultural awareness, self-confidence, and vocational readiness of prospective makeup artists.
